Oh to be alive! To love, to hate, to leave, to stay behind, to have camaraderies, to be in partnerships, to be angry, to be indifferent, to remember, to forget, to be alive!
To watch movies about being alive and feeling alive yourself, even though you’re glued to a screen in between the isolating four walls of your childhood bedroom. I’m alive, folks, I’m alive!
I’m always amazed at people being skillfully talented at their craft and these two movies portray exactly that. Though, I have to say it is a conflicting feeling because one of the two directors is a shitty person (not Spike Lee) and I have to ask – does supporting the art mean supporting the artist as well? It feels morally conflicting and I’m not sure how to feel about that just yet.
Despite that, I couldn’t help but feel a lot of emotions after watching both movies. You wanna feel something out of your empty, mindless, hollow shell of a life? Then go ahead and ruin your life some more by watching these. Because sometimes the only way to know we’re alive is to inflict pain on ourselves and others. Hey, the truth hurts, man–I’m just saying what you’re thinking, and this is something coming from an optimist.
P.S. This is NOT a movie review. Maybe more of a review on my psyche.
Seen on January 3rd & 5th, 2024 on Prime.
